Yera is a 2005 graduate of Grand Street Campus High School. Frank transferred to Farmingdale State in the fall of 2008 from Clarendon Community College.

Junior year...Named First Team All-Conference. Started in 31 games at centerfield and led the team with 119 at-bats while finishing fourth on the team with a .395 batting average. Also led the team in hits (47), total bases (59), stolen bases (11), games played (36) and games started (31).
Sophomore year...Named the Skyline Championship MVP. Winner of the ABCA/Rawlings New York Region Gold Glove Award, after making 0 errors in 31 games played with 51 putouts. Started 26 games. Led all starters with a .415 batting average.
