Rams Break Blue Knight Win Streak

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team handed Mount Saint Mary their first loss of the season today, as they split a Skyline Conference double-header today. The Rams now stand at 9-9 overall, 3-1 in the conference, while the Blue Knights hold a 10-1 record, 1-1 in the Skyline.

In conference games, the teams first play a 9-inning game and then finish the double-header with a 7-inning game.

In the first game, Mount Saint Mary scored one run in the third and then added three in the fifth for a 4-0 lead. Farmingdale State chipped away with two runs in the seventh inning, but couldn't close the gap. Senior Mike Dietrich (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and junior catcher Zak Nersesian (Nyack, N.Y./Nyack) scored for the Rams. Senior shortstop Brian Benvenuto (Dix Hills, N.Y./Hills West) went 3-for-4 and sophomore first baseman Kevin Curtis (Riverhead, N.Y./Riverhead) went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Senior pitcher Michael Redmond (Stone Ridge, N.Y./Rondout Valley) got the win for the Blue Knights going seven innings, striking out five batters. Senior right hander Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, N.Y./Hewlett) went 8.2 innings in the loss, walking only two and striking out six.

The second game was all Farmingdale, winning 12-3. The Rams went up 2-0 after one inning and in the third, broke away with five more runs. Farmingdale scored runs on RBI hits from Curtis, junior left fielder Donny Moscatelli (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa), junior right fielder Frank Ennis (Commack, N.Y./Commack), freshman catcher Frank Scarlato (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and junior center fielder Frank Yera (Manhattan, N.Y./Clarendon CC). The Rams scored in the next three innings and junior right hander Steve King (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) picks up the win going five innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run. King is now 2-1 on the season.

Farmingdale hosts CCNY on Sunday, March 22nd in a non-conference double-header starting at Noon.
