Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State baseball team (8-8) dropped both games of a doubleheader to New Jersey City University (8-7) tonight in Farmingdale, N.Y. Junior George Jessen (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) pitched the final four and two-thirds innings, giving up one run on three hits, for the 14-6 win for the Knights in the first game. In the second, junior pitcher Jose Sotomayor (Jersey City, NJ/Lincoln) went a complete game, letting up one earned run on three hits, for the 5-2 defeat to complete the sweep.
In game one, senior catcher Bryan Ciminelli (Wantagh, NY/Wantagh) had the only multi-hit night for the Rams, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Freshman pitcher Mike Kobel (Patchogue, NY/Bayport-Blue Point) suffered the lost for Farmingdale, giving up only two earned runs on five hits. Junior center fielder Rob Sumner (Union, NJ/Union) led New Jersey City, going 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBIs.
In game two, Knights' junior shortstop Jose Fulgencio (Bronx, NY/San Rafael, Dominican Republic) went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Sotomayor was pitching a no-hit shutout until Rams' sophomore center fielder Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, NY/Hewlett) tripled to left-center field and scored on a throwing error.
Farmingdale will look to bounce back this weekend with two conference doubleheader. The Rams will host Maritime on Saturday at Noon. Sunday's doubleheader is on the road against Merchant Marine at Noon in Kings Point, N.Y.
