Purchase, NY - The Farmingdale State baseball team came home on Wednesday afternoon with a victory under their belts to improve to 16-17, 9-5 in the Skyline after defeating Manhattanville (16-16, 9-5) in game two of a conference doubleheader. The Rams had 17 hits in the outing, including four doubles, and just missed tying a season-high 18 hits in a game. Farmingdale let up two runs in the first before shutting out the Valiants over the final eight innings for the 12-2 conference victory. Sophomore pitcher William Jansen (Westhampton Beach, NY/Westhampton Beach) got the win as he pitched eight innings with seven strikeouts and just six hits allowed.
Freshman outfielder Tom Heeman (Valley Stream, NY/Hewlett) opened up the Rams hit streak with a double in the first inning, the first hit of the game, before junior Nick Barone (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) hit the second double of the game to score Heeman from second. Freshman third-basemen Anthony Thompson (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) reached on an error by the third-basemen and Barone would score to give the Rams a 2-0 lead after the first. Manhattanville tied the game in the bottom of the first with two runs on two hits.
Farmingdale State took their second and final lead of the day in the third inning. Thompson hit a single to score junior second-basemen Pembroke (Wading River, NY/Shoreham Wading River) from third for the eventual game-winning run. The Rams would add nine more runs over the final seven innings. Sophomore pitcher Josh Deitch (Melville, NY/Hills East) relieved Jansen in the ninth inning and struck out one with no hits and no walks.
Farmingdale State hosts Stevens on Saturday, April 29th for a conference doubleheader starting at noon.
