Rams Comeback Falls Short at Manhattanville

Purchase, NY - The Farmingdale State baseball team fell to 15-16, 8-5 in the Skyline on Monday afternoon with a loss at Manhattanville (16-14, 9-4) in Purchase, NY. The Rams trailed 4-2 going into the ninth inning before a 3-run homerun by junior outfielder Nick Barone (North Babylon, NY/North Babylon) gave Farmingdale a 5-4 lead. Manhattanville came back in the bottom of the ninth with two runs on three hits to edge the Rams 6-5 for a conference victory.

Manhattanville took the first lead of the game with three runs in the third inning, then added a run in the fifth to lead 4-1. Farmingdale chipped away scoring one run in the seventh as freshman third-basemen Anthony Thompson (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) knocked in sophomore outfielder Rich Santoro (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) with an RBI single to make it 4-2. In the ninth inning, Barone's homerun gave the Rams a 5-4 edge, but junior pitcher Mark Barrar (Newton Square, PA) got one for the Valiants with a sacrifice fly and the game-winning run was knocked in by freshman centerfielder Stephen Pinto (Yonkers, NY).

Farmingdale's Barone and Luis Feliciano (Bronx, NY/Park West) both finished the day with three hits, while Santoro finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

The Rams will travel to Manhattanville for game two of the doubleheader at 4:00pm on Wednesday, April 26th.
