Farmingdale (2-0) started the season off in style as they came out swinging to defeat Polytechnic (0-2) 18-8 and 11-1. With chilling wind throughout the day, both games were halted after five innings by the 10-run rule giving the Rams their first two wins of the season. The Rams finished the day with 27 hits and 29 runs scored.
Farmingdale was just warming up in game one as they led 5-1 in the top of the fourth inning before Polytech scored 4 runs off just two hits to tie it up. The Rams struck back in the bottom of the fourth with a run scored by Anthony Scali (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa), a 2 run double by Robert Sorbera (Fresh Meadows, NY/Cardozo) and a 2-run homer by Keith King (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) to make it 10-5. Polytech mustered up 3 more runs in the fifth before the Rams finished it off with eight runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ian Roche-Tilden (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four stolen bases (4). Sorbera finished 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and 3 RBIís. King was 2-for-4 with a homer and 3 RBI's. Joseph Bono (Selden, NY/St. Anthony's) got the win and Greg Gredjikian (Copiague, NY/Copiage) pitched the last out for the save.
In game two, Farmingdale held Polytech to just one run in the fourth off and RBI double from James Catanzaro (Rockville Centre, NY). In the bottom of the fifth, the Rams scored seven runs with no outs and 2 left on base to end the game 11-1. Gary Block (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) finished 2-for-3 with 2 stolen bases. Scali went 1-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Roche-Tilden was 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Keith Gottschalk (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) earned his first win after pitching 5 innings with 5 strikeouts, 6 walks and allowing only two hits.
