In August 2006, George P. LaRosa was appointed Officer-in-Charge
at Farmingdale State by SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan. A veteran of
the SUNY system with over thirty years of service, Mr. LaRosa
served in this capacity until January 2007, when Dr. Hubert Keen
was named President of Farmingdale State College. Mr. LaRosa now
continues as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and
as Operations Manager for the Research Foundation.
After leaving public accounting, Mr. LaRosa started his career
within the SUNY system in 1974. He joined the staff at Farmingdale
in 1977 as college accountant and was subsequently promoted to
several positions within the Business and Finance area, culminating
in his appointment to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial
Officer of the college in January 2006, with responsibility for all
operational departments of the College - accounting, accounts
payable, athletics, financial aid, human resources, information
technology/campus computing, internal control, payroll, physical
plant, purchasing, student accounts, university police, use of
facilities, and all contractual, legal and insurance matters of the
College. He also oversees the business and fiscal affairs of all
non-State campus organizations including the Auxiliary Services
Corporation, the Child Care Center, the Research Foundation, the
Small Business Development Center and is a director of the
Farmingdale College Foundation.
Mr. LaRosa received a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from Adelphi University’s Graduate School of Business, Garden City, NY. He holds academic rank as Professor within the School of Business, having taught accounting courses for more than ten years and belongs to various professional organizations including SUNY Business Officers’ Association (currently serving on their Executive Board), Eastern Association of Colleges and University Business Officers, National Association of Colleges and University Business Officers, and the Institute of Management Accountants. Mr. LaRosa has also been the recipient of many awards, the most notable of which is the Institute of Management Accountants’ Financial Executive of the Year Award in 1998.
