In August 2006, George P. LaRosa was appointed Officer-in-Chargeat Farmingdale State by SUNY Chancellor John R. Ryan. A veteran ofthe SUNY system with over thirty years of service, Mr. LaRosaserved in this capacity until January 2007, when Dr. Hubert Keenwas named President of Farmingdale State College. Mr. LaRosa nowcontinues as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer andas Operations Manager for the Research Foundation.
After leaving public accounting, Mr. LaRosa started his careerwithin the SUNY system in 1974. He joined the staff at Farmingdalein 1977 as college accountant and was subsequently promoted toseveral positions within the Business and Finance area, culminatingin his appointment to Senior Vice President and Chief FinancialOfficer of the college in January 2006, with responsibility for alloperational departments of the College - accounting, accountspayable, athletics, financial aid, human resources, informationtechnology/campus computing, internal control, payroll, physicalplant, purchasing, student accounts, university police, use offacilities, and all contractual, legal and insurance matters of theCollege. He also oversees the business and fiscal affairs of allnon-State campus organizations including the Auxiliary ServicesCorporation, the Child Care Center, the Research Foundation, theSmall Business Development Center and is a director of theFarmingdale College Foundation.
Mr. LaRosa received a BBA in Accounting and an MBA from AdelphiUniversity’s Graduate School of Business, Garden City, NY. Heholds academic rank as Professor within the School of Business,having taught accounting courses for more than ten years andbelongs to various professional organizations including SUNYBusiness Officers’ Association (currently serving on theirExecutive Board), Eastern Association of Colleges and UniversityBusiness Officers, National Association of Colleges and UniversityBusiness Officers, and the Institute of Management Accountants. Mr.LaRosa has also been the recipient of many awards, the most notableof which is the Institute of Management Accountants’Financial Executive of the Year Award in 1998.
